1. The 3 Tiers of Digital Streaming Privacy
Maintaining security in a modern streaming household requires evaluating three distinct operational domains:
Device Permissions
What local hardware sensors, contacts, and filesystem storage permissions is your installed media player application granted on your TV or stick?
Network In-Transit
Is your stream data encrypted via TLS/HTTPS, or are raw media URLs and account credentials traversing your router unencrypted?
Account Integrity
How are your Xtream Codes API username, password, and active connection slots safeguarded against unauthorized external access?
2. What Can a UK Internet Service Provider Inspect?
Under the UK Investigatory Powers Act 2016, UK Internet Service Providers are legally required to retain "Internet Connection Records" (ICRs) for 12 months. This metadata includes:
- Domain Names & Server IP Addresses: The destination server IP and SNI domain your device contacts.
- Timestamp & Bandwidth Volume: The exact date, time, duration, and volume of data transferred (e.g. 15GB streamed between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM).
- DNS Query Logs: Every domain lookup made through your ISP's default resolver.
However, ISPs cannot inspect the actual decrypted video payload or login passwords when streams are transported over secure HTTPS/TLS encrypted tunnels.

3. Media Player Permissions: Zero Root Required
A legitimate media player only requires standard network internet access and media storage permissions to cache channel icons and EPG data. If an application requests access to Device Administrator, Contacts, Location, or SMS, it is almost certainly bundled with tracking payloads or malicious proxy bots.
